Collaborate to Success

Language Arts

Collaboration is a very important quality at DRSS. It was what helps a group get work done. Without or lack of this quality, is a very bad thing. The group won’t be as productive as it could be. This was a problem for my group during the plate tectonics project. We would easily get off task. Due to this, I knew something had to change. My group and I were losing points on the collaboration log, and it was having a bad effect on our grades. Collaboration log scores were dropping, because that is what we weren’t doing very well. We weren’t collaborating very well. My group set out to get better and better, until our collaboration log scores got higher. That was when I realized that this year in language arts, I grew in collaboration. I have two artifacts to prove this growth. My first artifact is the first collaboration log from the plate tectonics project. My 2nd artifact is the second collaboration log from that project.

My first artifact is the 1st collaboration log from the plate tectonics project. The plate tectonics project was very interesting, and really cool. In Language Arts class, we had to do all the explaining. In language Arts, we were preparing for writing the explanation and how our final plate tectonics model works. We did a review on complete sentences and avoiding fragments. We learned about using sentence variety, and using the four types of sentences in our explanation. These sentences include simple sentences, compound sentences, complex sentences, and compound-complex sentences. We learned about non-fiction writing. However, we had a little slow start on getting this done. During the beginning of the project, we were known as a group that got a little of task at times. We had a draft of our plate tectonics explanation to make, using knowledge we were learning from science class. We got this draft done as accurately as we could in time, but we were getting off task, so this took time away from other things we would need to do after the explanation draft. As people can see in our first collaboration log, we goofed off in the beginning, and weren’t very descriptive on our time usage in the collaboration log. Towards the end of this collaboration log, people can see that these scores improved, and time usage descriptions became much more descriptive. That was the start of this year’s growth in collaboration.

My second artifact is the 2nd collaboration log from the plate tectonics project. Now in the project, we have finished and turned in our draft of our plate tectonics explanation. It was time to create our final description. At the same time, we had to keep up with our plate tectonics model, so that we could also write about how it works. Using research from around the beginning of the project, we talked about how plate tectonics worked in my group’s chosen location. We talked about what plate tectonics is, and what kind happens at our location. At our location, uplift happens, which is when a plate rubes against another, causing it to rise. A lot more work was able to be done more quickly, due to the fact that we were a lot better at staying on task. As showed in my collaboration log, we always had very high scores, and very rarely got off task. By the end of the project, we got everything we needed to done, and turned in on time and as accurately as possible. Now, there was no doubt that I that this year in Language Arts, I grew in collaboration.

It is important to learn how to work with a group do get something done, and it always will be. The need for collaboration will always follow me, even into my career. This is why collaboration is and always will be very important. My two artifacts have proven that this year is Language Arts class, I grew in collaboration.
